The site was enclosed on three sides by existing homes and the site boundary ran adjacent to a local church. When planning the works special attention had to be paid to the vibration levels expected during piling works.
Prior to demolition works the site had been used for several years by a Mechanical Engineering company. Several existing buildings had to be removed and presence of contaminated spoil also had to be considered in planning the piling and foundation works.
Taranto Ltd installed its unique precast Foundation Package throughout the site, comprising of AD Auger Displacement piled foundations, pile cap, precast ground beams and precast structural floor.
Because of the consideration to be given to vibration and site spoil, Taranto Ltd decided on the use of a AD Auger Displacement pile for these works.
AD Auger Displacement pile installation is practically silent and even though a AD Auger Displacement pile is a bored pile, Taranto Ltd's unique displacement piling technique results in zero spoil being produced during pile installation. This issue was of particular importance to the main contractor as it greatly reduced the quantity of contaminated material being removed from the site.
Taranto Ltds Foundation Package was installed throughout the site. Main contractor, O’Hanlon & Farrell maintained their construction programme whilst minimising the risk to budget by ensuring that our package catered for the site’s requirement for both low vibration and the removal of spoil material.
